We rely on light to guide us through the dark, whether the sun’s rays warm us during the day or a flashlight leads the way on a dark path. While light is given to us as a gift, walking in that light requires action on our part. In the natural world, we don’t just observe light—we follow it to navigate, to make choices, and to find our way. Spiritually, God calls us to walk in His light, embracing the guidance, truth, and wisdom from His presence. As we walk in His light, we reflect it, bringing truth, justice, and love to the world around us.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5 ESV)
This verse speaks of an active and persistent light. It continues to shine regardless of the darkness around it. Darkness may resist, but it cannot overcome the light. Jesus, the genuine Light, came into a world of sin and confusion. His presence brought clarity, healing, and a new way of living. And that light has not—and will not—be extinguished.
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12 ESV)
Jesus boldly declares Himself as the Light. Following Him is a decision to walk in light, to live with vision and purpose. This light gives life, not just in the future, but right now. As we walk with Him, we are given the ability to see clearly and to become light-bearers ourselves.
