Rebirth begins with release. The old self, shaped by fear, pride, and self-reliance, cannot carry us into the fullness of life God desires. Transformation means letting go of what no longer serves His purposes in us.
“To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22–24 ESV)
To be reborn is to walk away from the past and move forward in trust. We won’t find perfection, but we will find participation in Christ’s work. In Him, we discover how to open our hearts to change and shape a new way of life.
“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4 ESV)
Perhaps you’ve seen a house being renovated. The walls are torn down, warped wood is removed, and what has grown moldy is discarded. In the same way, God invites us to put off our “old self.” In that release, we move from shame to freedom. Humility helps us say, “I don’t know best—God, lead me.” That’s where new life begins.
Spiritual Move: Humility—Walk humbly with God, recognizing your need for Him and allowing Him to lead you into greater transformation. Acknowledge your limitations and weaknesses, relying on God’s strength rather than your own. Humility opens the door to deeper dependence on God’s grace.
Journaling Prompt: What old patterns, mindsets, or habits is God calling you to leave behind? How can humility help you step more fully into His new life for you?
Move It: Identify one old pattern or mindset that led you to surrender to God. In prayer, invite Him to reshape it and lead you into newness of life.
