Life 1000

8 Moves Series: Life, 5 Mini-Devos, Group Discussion, Sermon Outline

Key Word: Community
Elemental Theme: Life – Growth, relationship, fruitfulness, abiding
Spiritual Focus: Heart (connection, compassion, vitality)
Movement: From isolation to belonging; from scarcity to fruitfulness

Anchor Scripture:
*”I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.” – John 15:5

✦ DEVOTIONAL 1: “The Vine and the Branches”

Scripture:
*”Abide in me, and I in you… apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:4–5

Focus: True life flows from abiding, not striving.

Observation: Fruitfulness is not forced—it’s the overflow of staying connected to Jesus. We try to do life solo, but branches can’t live without the vine.

Contemplative Practice: Sit quietly and picture yourself as a branch. What does it feel like to rest in the vine?

Practical Challenge: Set aside 10 minutes to pause in Jesus’ presence—no agenda. Just be.

✦ DEVOTIONAL 2: “A Seed That Grows”

Scripture:
*”The kingdom of God is like a man who scatters seed… the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.” – Mark 4:26–27

Focus: Life grows mysteriously—our role is to sow faithfully and trust God’s process.

Observation: You don’t have to understand how growth happens—just keep planting seeds of faith, kindness, and truth. God handles the increase.

Contemplative Practice: Recall one spiritual seed you’ve planted (a prayer, conversation, act of love). Give thanks and release the outcome to God.

Practical Challenge: Sow one intentional seed today—an encouraging word, a prayer, or a gift of time.

✦ DEVOTIONAL 3: “Mustard Seed Faith”

Scripture:
*”Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants.” – Matthew 13:31–32

Focus: Life in the Kingdom starts small but grows expansive.

Observation: Don’t underestimate the power of tiny beginnings. Jesus was born in obscurity, yet His life reshaped the world. Your small steps matter more than you know.

Contemplative Practice: Meditate on the phrase: “Small is not insignificant.” Let that truth root in your soul.

Practical Challenge: Take one small step today in a habit you want to grow—spiritual, relational, or creative.

✦ DEVOTIONAL 4: “Branches That Bear Fruit”

Scripture:
*”This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” – John 15:8

Focus: Fruit is not for the branch—it’s for others. A fruitful life is a generous life.

Observation: When you’re spiritually healthy, the impact ripples out. Others are nourished by your peace, love, and joy. God wants your life to feed others.

Contemplative Practice: Reflect on this question: What fruit is growing in my life right now? What might others taste?

Practical Challenge: Offer a blessing or act of generosity to someone close to you—no strings attached.

✦ DEVOTIONAL 5: “Life Together”

Scripture:
*”Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” – 1 Corinthians 12:27

Focus: We were never meant to grow alone. Life multiplies in community.

Observation: Each person brings something essential to the whole. When we’re isolated, growth stalls. When we connect, life flows.

Contemplative Practice: Think about one person who’s helped you grow. Offer a prayer of gratitude for them.

Practical Challenge: Reach out to someone who might be isolated. Invite them to talk, walk, or just be together.

✦ SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION: “Growing Life Together”

Session Goal: To explore how abiding, planting, and community work together to cultivate spiritual life and fruitfulness.

Opening Prayer: Ask God to bring to life what feels dormant in us—and to teach us how to live more fully together.

Warm-up Question:

  • Where do you see signs of growth in your life? Where do you feel stuck?

Scripture Focus:

  • John 15:1–8 (The Vine and Branches)
  • 1 Corinthians 12:12–27 (The Body of Christ)
  • Matthew 13:31–32 (The Mustard Seed)

Discussion Prompts:

  1. What does it mean for you personally to “abide in Christ”?
  2. Have you ever seen small acts of obedience produce unexpected fruit?
  3. What spiritual gifts or “fruit” do you think others receive from your life?
  4. Where are you longing for more life right now?

Group Activity:

  • Give each member a seed or small plant. Invite them to reflect silently: What part of your life needs tending right now? What part is bearing fruit?

Challenge for the Week:

  • Choose one person in your life you can spiritually “water” this week—through encouragement, prayer, or service.

✦ SERMON OUTLINE: “Life: Abide and Abound”

Title: “Rooted and Fruitful: The Way of Life in Christ”

Key Text: John 15:1–8

I. Introduction: The Quest for a Full Life

  • Our culture is obsessed with vitality, wellness, and growth—but often misses the source.
  • Jesus offers life to the full—but it’s not something we chase. It’s something we receive by abiding.

II. Life Comes from Connection, Not Effort

  • Jesus uses the metaphor of the vine and branches to reveal that spiritual life is not about performance but relationship.
  • “Apart from me you can do nothing” is not a threat—it’s an invitation to dependency.

III. The Hidden Work of Growth

  • Like seeds in the soil, much of God’s work in us is hidden and slow.
  • We must learn to trust God’s process: sowing, waiting, watering, pruning, harvesting.

IV. Fruitfulness Is the Overflow of Abiding

  • Fruit isn’t produced by striving, but by remaining.
  • Galatians 5:22–23 outlines the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, etc. These are not tasks; they are byproducts.

V. Your Life is for Others

  • The fruit of your life is not for you—it’s for those around you.
  • When you abide in Jesus, others begin to taste of His goodness through your presence.

VI. Life is Meant to Be Shared

  • 1 Corinthians 12 reminds us that we are a body—interconnected, interdependent.
  • Real life multiplies in community. Isolation withers. Connection empowers.

Closing Illustration:

  • Share a testimony of someone whose quiet, faithful abiding bore unexpected fruit—perhaps in family, workplace, or church.

Call to Action:

  • Where are you disconnected?
  • Where is God asking you to “abide” and stop striving?
  • Who might God be calling you to bless with the fruit of your life?

Summary of Life Themes in the 8 Moves Series

  • Abide before you achieve
  • Grow slow and steady
  • Start small, trust the increase
  • Bear fruit that nourishes others
  • Live life rooted in community

Closing Thought: Life in Christ is not merely survival—it is fullness, flourishing, and fruitfulness. Let His life animate yours in every conversation, decision, and breath. You were created to thrive, not just exist.
