When God spoke light into existence, He brought order to chaos. He is still speaking into the darkness of the world.

Primordial Brightness — “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.” (Genesis 1:3-4 ESV) Where do I want clarity or a new beginning?

Sun and Moon — “And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth.” (Genesis 1:16-17 ESV) What does the faithful rhythm of sun and moon teach me about God’s consistency?

Light Incarnate — “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:1-5 ESV) Where do I most need the light of Christ in my life right now?

Absolute Goodness — “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5 ESV) What would it mean for there to be a source of pure goodness with no shadow side?

Spiritual Move: Lectio Divina — This ancient practice of reading invites you to engage the scripture with these four steps: Lectio: slow imaginative reading; Meditatio: ruminating on a word or phrase; Oratio: responding in prayer; Contemplatio: resting in God’s presence; “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” (Psalm 119:18 ESV) How can I slow down and read the lesson before me?
