Light is a dramatic, ubiquitous symbol and metaphor for what is true, pure, and beneficial for guidance. The gospel writer, John, sees in Jesus the perfect expression of what Christ came to accomplish in our lives.
Light Commands Darkness — “He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.” (Daniel 2:22 ESV) What hidden things in my life need to be brought into the light?
Perfect Guidance — “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” (John 8:12 ESV) What would it be like to have a guide who could illuminate every dark place in my journey?
Heart Radiance — “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:6 ESV) What truth or insight has recently shed light on something I’d been confused about?
True Light Arrives — “The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.” (John 1:9 ESV) How has the light of Christ illuminated my understanding of who God is?
Spiritual Move: Contemplation/Meditation — Sit quietly today with the insights provided and let them soak into your understanding. “The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.” (Psalm 119:130 ESV) How do I envision sitting with Scripture and letting its light enter my heart?
