Fifty-Three: Faith’s Horizon

There is a gap between the moment a promise is made and the moment it is fulfilled. What happens in the gap is the question. The waiting in between is part of the journey.

Deliverance and Abundance — “Then the Lord said, ‘I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey.’” (Exodus 3:7-8a ESV) Where do you need to hear that God has seen your situation and is already moving toward you?

City With Foundations — “By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.” (Hebrews 11:9-10 ESV) What promise are you living toward that you haven’t yet seen fulfilled?

Spiritual Move: Hospitality — Abraham sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day and ran toward strangers. Hospitality is the practice of giving what you have been given — table, home, attention, welcome. Invite someone in this week who is still on the journey. “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Hebrews 13:2 ESV)
