In ancient cultures, construction began with a ritual — an offering, a blessing, an acknowledgment that the builders were not the final authority over what they were raising. The foundation wasn’t just physical. It was a declaration of dependence. We have largely lost that instinct. We break ground and call it ours. What would change if you treated your work as something you were invited into rather than something you originated?
Bread of Anxious Toil — “It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.” (Psalm 127:2 ESV) How is anxiety driving your work instead of your calling?
Working Together — “For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.” (1 Corinthians 3:9 ESV) What does it mean to be a co-worker with God in His kingdom purposes?
Spiritual Move: Justice — Acting for the poor, vulnerable, and oppressed to extend Christ’s Kingdom in the world. “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8 ESV)
