God started it all — “in the beginning.” Because God moves, we move. Because of how he designed us and his example. Let’s think about the significance of these truths.
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:1-2 ESV)
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. (Genesis 1:3-5 ESV)
There’s more in that chapter but you get the idea. It all started in the beginning. Jesus called us to love God with our whole person:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30 ESV)
The best way to get a handle on it is to memorize them as four pairs: Light/Water, Land/Time, Life/Work, Rest/Rebirth. Below, the verses provided can help us see that 8 Moves has a biblical foundation. You might be interested in memorizing the verses but many other passages could be meaningful too. Here are the 8 themes, in which we move:
- Light: Children of light, walk in the light. “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” (Ephesians 5:8 ESV)
- Water: Decide to become a bubbling spring. “but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14 ESV)
- Land: God gives land as a blessing and inheritance. “The righteous shall inherit the land and dwell upon it forever.”(Psalm 37:29 ESV)
- Time: Signals in the sky, the weather, and astronomy signify the signs of the times. “And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.” (Matthew 16:3 ESV)
- Life: I am the way the truth and the life. “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” (John 14:6 ESV)
- Work: Work as unto the Lord. “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23 ESV)
- Rest: Honor the Sabbath. “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” (Exodus 20:8 ESV)
- Rebirth: You are a new creation. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV)
