And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
Genesis 1:3-8 ESV
Our metaphors for thinking that result in wisdom are light and water. When we think about light, we think of enlightenment. We think of the truth that we envision. See what I did there? Our sense of sight gives us vision when we see the light.
Our metaphor for decisive-ness is water. Think about water going downstream in a river, the rock is ahead, and should the water go left or right, it goes around without even thinking about it. We want to be like that water, making the right decisions for the circumstances and letting the environment and the natural forces around us inform our best decisions.
God moves. God is decisive. The creation is responsive to the wisdom and power of God. How are you moving in response to God’s creative action? Can you find God’s wisdom in the material universe all around you? Start with that miraculous ability you take for granted because you have eyes to see.
