Opposite reactions–the significance of the most significant things are their counterparts. Here Paul talks about the significance of life and death. The cause and effect, some say pros and cons. It’s just one more reality with which we must deal.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23 ESV).
We’ve been talking about life this week and we can’t talk about life without recognizing our ultimate destiny. Looking forward, believers find hope, especially in the promise of life eternal. The free gift God offers is God’s way of dealing with the difficult truth of humanities rebellion. It is a stark contrast between the consequences of sin and the grace offered by Christ. When we accept the gift, we are transformed by the eternal hope found in Jesus
“And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son” (1 John 5:11 ESV).
This is a declaration of God’s promise to us. Eternal life is not just a future hope but a present reality, because of your relationship with Jesus. We are invited to live in the light of that hope today.
8 Moves Practice: Reflect on how the promise of eternal life changes your daily mindset. How can you live out this hope today? Write down the ways you can embrace the truth and share it with someone.
