A tree’s strength is found in the depth of its roots. The same is true of faith.
Paul challenges us to be “Rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving” (Colossians 2:7 ESV)
This foundation anchors us, in Christ, so that we can be strong and resilient. The psalmist illustrates it in the opening chapter of the Hebrew songbook:
The righteous person “…is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers” (Psalm 1:3 ESV)
Read the rest of it and you’ll find a picture of stability: “They are like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither” (ESV). A tree planted near a reliable water source, nourished, and fruitful. And this is an important purpose; to remain rooted in God’s presence and receive this source of life.
“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love” (Ephesians 3:17 ESV)
Being rooted isn’t just about strength—it’s about love. Paul prays that we would “be rooted and grounded in love” to be establish our lives in the solid ground of Christ’s love.
The practice of Stability: By committing to a daily rhythm that strengthens your spiritual roots; through prayer, Scripture, and intentional time with God, focus on deepening your connection to Christ, so that His love grounds and sustains you.
