Many of the churches in Southern California can easily cross the border with Mexico. On a mission trip through the desert, you couldn’t help but marvel at the tenacity of life in such harsh conditions. A vibrant green plant growing among the rocks, its roots reaching deep into the earth to find water, the people are resilient like the plant. Reflecting on the power of that plant’s resilience, we realize God formed humanity from the dust, breathing life into what appeared to be nothing more than dirt. Everything we have, talents, time, and even breath—is a precious gift from God. From dust to life, and we are called to steward these gifts with wisdom and care.
“Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.” (Genesis 2:7 ESV)
God didn’t just create us from the dust of the earth; He gave us life through His own breath. This sacred act of creation calls us to honor both the Creator and the creation itself. Just as He carefully formed us from the earth, we too are called to carefully tend to what He has entrusted to us.
“For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.” (Psalm 103:14 ESV)
God’s knowledge of our humble origins serves as a gentle reminder of our responsibility to steward all things wisely. We are caretakers of His creation, called to manage resources with reverence, humility, and gratitude.
Spiritual Move: Stewardship—To honor God as the owner of all things, use what He has given you wisely and compassionately. Care and manage your time, talents, and possessions as acts of worship, honoring the Creator in every way.
Journaling Prompt: How do you view the resources God has entrusted to you—your time, talents, and possessions? Reflect on an area where you sense God calling you to greater stewardship. What small steps can you take today to honor Him through how you manage and care for what He has given you?
Move it: Touch the earth today-remember your roots and consider how you can use God’s gifts wisely. Take action in small ways to honor Him with your stewardship.
