In the beginning, God worked. He formed the heavens and the earth, shaped light and land, brought forth life and order from chaos, and called it very good. Creation itself is the result of divine work—purposeful, beautiful, and complete. God’s work was not random effort; it was purposeful expression. And because we are made in His image, our work—when rooted in faith—can also become sacred. In every task we do, there is an invitation to reflect on the God who first worked with joy and intention.
Think about the difference between busy and meaningful. Have you ever ended the day exhausted, but also deeply satisfied, because you gave your all to something that mattered? Maybe it was caring for someone, finishing a project, or simply showing up fully for a friend. In a world obsessed with productivity, it’s easy to forget that our value isn’t measured by output, but by offering. God invites us not just to get things done, but to work on purpose, with His love and presence shaping what we do and how we do it.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23 ESV)
This is a shift in vision: seeing our daily efforts—whether behind a desk, at home, in a classroom, or at a job site—as ways to serve the Lord. Our goal is not the approval of people, but the pleasure of God. That makes the ordinary holy.

Work, even when hard, has value. The discipline of showing up, putting hands to something good, and following through has a lasting impact. When we talk about service, we move from dreaming to doing. We take part in God’s ongoing act of renewal.
