Aug 9: Job 17-20; James 4

Posted on August 9, 2019August 8, 2019

Job says words of confusion and defense. His friends often sound right but be careful, they don’t have all the answers.

My spirit is broken; my days are extinct; the graveyard is ready for me. – Job 17:1

…where then is my hope? Who will see my hope?’ – Job 17:15

Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were inscribed in a book! Oh that with an iron pen and lead they were engraved in the rock forever! For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. – Job 19:23-25

How then will you comfort me with empty nothings? There is nothing left of your answers but falsehood. – Job 21:34

James says, be humble and get closer to God. He also challenges us to act with integrity.

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. – James 4:6-8
