Life moves in cycles—times of growth and renewal, times of waiting and stillness, times of letting go. The writer of Ecclesiastes reminds us, that this is the experience of life. Time is a mystery, and our attitude toward it is key.
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1 ESV).
Whether we find ourselves in a season of stability or uncertainty, God is present, working His plan. Certain things are beyond our control. We need to determine whether we surrender to circumstances or do our best to make difference. Discerning the timing isn’t easy.
We strive for control; we fear the unknown; God calls us to pause and think about it:
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” (Psalm 46:10 ESV).
Stillness is not passivity—it is trust. Choosing to pause and reflect can be the greatest act of faith. In seasons of waiting or transition, we look to the guidance of ancient wisdom:
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11 ESV).
When the path ahead is unclear, stillness and reflection can be a source of wisdom and understanding. Where in your life do you need to surrender to wise timing? Is trust a better alternative than fighting for control in some area of your life?
The Practice of Sabbath Keeping: Set aside intentional time this week to be in God’s presence. Whether a full day or a few hours of stillness embrace the rhythm of surrender. Release worries, slow your pace, and trust that there is a work being done in you.
