Before oceans, mountains, and time—God spoke light into being. “Let there be light” marked the beginning of the universe and the emergence of transcendent reality: goodness, order, beauty and clarity. We might try following that pattern and begin our days, decisions, and relationships by calling forth light—truth, goodness, and presence—into them.
“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts.” (2 Corinthians 4:6 ESV)
Think of those mornings when everything feels off. Maybe you wake up anxious or enter a conversation already carrying stress. What if you started by speaking light into your early morning? I start by sitting in my favorite chair, a cup of coffee, and listening to scripture–I try not to get out of the chair until I’m ready to take on the day. Imagine beginning with a quiet prayer, a verse of Scripture, or a word of blessing. Like God at the beginning, you can initiate light by speaking truth, a new reality, where there’s a shadow.
“For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8 ESV).
To walk as children of light means speaking life, and reflecting Christ in all we do. Through the practice of Lectio Divina, we can begin the day not with chaos or noise, but by letting the light guide our mind and speech.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105 ESV).
Spiritual Move: Lectio Divina—To engage deeply with God’s Word, allowing it to transform your mind and guide your choices. Read scripture using the four steps: reading, meditating, praying, and acting. Choose a passage and allow it to shape your thoughts and actions.
Journaling Prompt: What hidden truths do you feel God is revealing to you through His light? How can you make space for God’s light to bring wisdom into your life today?
