Today Moves: Pause today. Ask. Listen. Drink. Let God quench your soul.
Before we ever knew thirst, God made water. On the second day of creation, He separated the waters, forming a space where life could flourish—both physically and spiritually. This was not only a practical move but a prophetic one. Water is more than an aspect of Creation; it’s a revelation of the Creator. Before we asked, God provided. Before we hungered, He fed. Before we were dry, He prepared the well. His provision is always ahead of our needs. Creation teaches us this: we were made to receive, and our first faithful move is to recognize and respond.
“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God” (Psalm 42:1 ESV).
Imagine hiking in the high desert. The trail looked simple, but two hours in, every step became heavy. Dust coats your mouth. Then, the sound of trickling water—real water—breaks through the silence. You don’t pause to analyze it; you run and drink deeply. That water is a rescue. In the same way, when we hit spiritual dryness—worn out, unclear, or numb—God doesn’t shame us for it. He waits, ready to quench our soul.
“With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” (Isaiah 12:3 ESV)
This illustrates a simple Gospel idea, we have need and God provides. God invites us to come, to draw, to drink. To discern and understand when we’re dry and move toward the solution. This is the practice of spiritual discernment: noticing your need, listening for His voice, and choosing the life He offers.
Spiritual Move: Discernment — When you’re unsure, pause. Ask God what He sees. Listen with your heart. In the quiet or in conversation, notice how He gently directs your steps.
Journaling Prompt: When have you felt spiritually dry, and how did you seek refreshment? How can you drink more deeply from God’s well today?
