Marathon runners describe a moment late in the race when the finish line is close enough to believe in but far enough to doubt. The body wants to stop. The only thing that keeps it moving is the certainty that the end exists even when it cannot be seen.
Brief and Beloved — “As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children.” (Psalm 103:15-17 ESV) Where does knowing your days are finite change what you pursue?
Hold On and Receive — “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For, ‘Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay.’” (Hebrews 10:36-37 ESV) Where do you need endurance to keep going?
Spiritual Move: Fixed-Hour Prayer — Try to structure your day around set times of prayer: morning, midday, and evening. Let the clock become a reminder that time belongs to God. Each pause is a small act of trust that the day doesn’t depend entirely on you. “He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.” (Daniel 6:10 ESV)
