Mastery & Skill

This picture brings back memories. Dad was a Chevron Station owner during my childhood. I grew up around the grease, gasoline, solvent, and hundreds or thousands of automotive parts that I cleaned at the shop sink as soon as I could reach it. Grampa was a machinist for General Dynamics in Pomona and Grandad always replaced his own brakes in the driveway after a full day of teaching young musicians.

“Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men” (Proverbs 22:29 ESV).

The optimism of Solomon says your work will not go un-noticed. Do a good job and there will always be a place for you in the economy.

“Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2 ESV).

There is a deep spiritual responsibility to cultivate your giftedness. To use it for the benefit of the community. Whatever you find to do, do it with all your heart. It will be a value to your family, more than putting food on the table, your community will grow as you dedicate your service to helping others.
