“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him” (Psalm 62:5 ESV).
Our lives are so busy, that solitude and stillness can be hard to come by. With our spiritual health in mind, the Psalmist challenges us to wait in silence. When we are silent, space is created for the voice of God to be heard. In this, the life of Jesus is our example. While his ministry was demanding much of him, he still looked for ways to get away and pray.
“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed” (Mark 1:35 ESV).
Today, try to seek moments of stillness — perhaps in the morning before it gets too hectic or during a quiet break in the middle of your day…turn off distractions, pause, and sit in God’s presence. A few minutes of silence can refresh your spirit and draw you to the One who brings true peace.
Journaling: How can you create space for stillness in your life? What distractions do you need to set aside so you can listen to God’s voice?
Prayer: Lord, help me to seek stillness. Please remind me today to pause so I can experience Your peace. Draw me close to You, where I can rest and find hope, refreshed. Amen.
