Thirteen: Promised Land

It was rare for people in the ancient world to travel more than thirty miles from their home. The village, the family, the familiar land — these were not just comfort, they were security and survival. To leave was to give up the things that kept you alive.

Inheritance Promised — “On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, ‘To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates.’” (Genesis 15:18 ESV) How has your place of promise been a blessing to you?

Not Knowing — “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8 ESV) What promises are you anticipating?

Spiritual Move: Hospitality is sharing what you have received. This could be home, table, attention, welcome. As has been said, freely you have received, freely give. “You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” (Leviticus 19:34 ESV)
