Genesis 1:3 / John 1:5
Notice what God is already revealing.
We have watched the sky change, before sunrise and after dusk. The extremes are night and day. In the morning, the dark doesn’t turn off. The light changes a little at a time. We see it has been turning night into day. The light reminds us that there is something to see. Our eyes are filled with information and knowledge, a way to navigate our world.
Light Comes – “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3 ESV) What is the light challenging you to notice?
Light Breaks Through – “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5 ESV) Is there something you’re beginning to see because of the light?
LIGHT MOVES
Spiritual Move: Lectio Divina — Read a single passage of Scripture and take it in slowly. Try these four steps:
Lectio: read it unhurried.
Meditatio: stay with the word or phrase that hits you.
Oratio: respond honestly in prayer.
Contemplatio: rest in what God has given.
Stay until you sense a change. “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” (Psalm 119:18 ESV)
Spiritual Move: Scripture Memorization — Remembering by heart is a way to store light inside you. This daily practice of memorizing and reviewing God’s word makes it readily available for every day. “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11 ESV)
