Nine: Rivers of Living Water

Posted on October 15, 2026October 15, 2026

Water · Music · Creativity

The band plays the first chord of the song everyone came for, and the whole festival field rises at once. People who walked in as strangers are singing the same words at the top of their lungs. For a few minutes the field sings with one voice. When did a song last carry you along?

The Feast of Booths fills Jerusalem with crowds (John 7:2). “Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!’” (John 7:37 WEB). The feast remembers Israel living in temporary shelters in the wilderness after Egypt (Leviticus 23:42-43).

The water Jesus promises flows out of the believer, and John says it is the Spirit. “‘He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.’ But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.” (John 7:38-39 WEB). “From within him” is literally from his koilia, his belly.

Spiritual Move: Celebration. Put on one song of praise and sing along out loud, standing up. If you can, move with it.
