Ten: He Who Is Thirsty, Let Him Come

Posted on October 16, 2026October 15, 2026

Water · Spontaneity · Emotions

On the hottest day of summer, someone opens a fire hydrant, and water shoots across the pavement. Within seconds kids come running from every doorway, shrieking and soaked, with no plan at all. Adults stop on the sidewalk, and one or two kick off their shoes and run in too. When did you last run toward something good without thinking it through?

Jesus speaks at the end of the Bible. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Blessed are those who do his commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22:13-14 WEB). Alpha and omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet.

The Bible ends with thirsty people still being invited to water. “Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify these things to you for the assemblies. I am the root and the offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star. The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ He who hears, let him say, ‘Come!’ He who is thirsty, let him come. He who desires, let him take the water of life freely.” (Revelation 22:15-17 WEB). “Freely” is dōrean, as a gift, from the same word as “the gift of God” Jesus offered at the well (John 4:10).

Spiritual Move: Witness. Think of one person who is thirsty in their own way. Invite them today to read this passage with you, or to come with you to church.
