When I think of the gift of breathing, I can’t help but think of a time that I had a severe bronchitis attack. When you are desperate for air, you quickly realize how important it is. Our body craves oxygen and like so many of our needs and desires that is one, we can’t do without. One day I’ll post the story about the day I was nine years old and the Dr. that saved my life when I couldn’t breath.
Divine Animation — “Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” (Genesis 2:7 ESV) What does it mean that life itself is a gift breathed into me?
Continuous Provision — “In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.” (Job 12:10 ESV) How am I sustained moment by moment, often without even realizing it?
Creative Diversity — “O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great.” (Psalm 104:24-25 ESV) What does the incredible diversity of life on earth tell me about creativity and abundance?
Perpetual Refreshment — “When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.” (Psalm 104:30 ESV) Where do I see life constantly renewing itself in nature and in me?
Spiritual Move: Breath Prayer – Take a few moments to breath in and gratefully recognize the gift of provision. Breathe out and relax into a state of peace. We take in what is provided and we send out the grace we have received.
