When we think about trees, we know but may not be immediately aware that half of their life is lived underground, out of sight, doing foundational work in the dark. We can imagine what we cannot see, reaching down, absorbing nutrients, seeking water, stretching toward its need. The foundation built below becomes the strength you see above. Trunk, bark, branches, and leaves — one united structure, ready for whatever comes.
Planted by Water — “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8 ESV). What helps you stay rooted when you feel unstable?
The Vine and the Branch — “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5 ESV) Where are you striving without connection?
Spiritual Move: Scripture Memorization — Remembering by heart is a way to store light inside you. This daily practice of memorizing and reviewing God’s word makes it readily available for every day. “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11 ESV)
