Fifty-Nine: Trust the moment

Anxiety is almost always future-tense. The thing feared has not happened yet. The body responds to an imagined event as though it were real, spending energy on a moment that may never arrive.

Do Not Presume — “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit’ — yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” (James 4:13-14 ESV) Where are you living ahead of yourself instead of trusting today?

Today Is Enough — “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:34 ESV) What worry are you carrying today that belongs to tomorrow, not now?

Spiritual Move: Gratitude — Gratitude is the practice of naming what is good in the present moment. What you attend to makes you who you are. “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24 ESV)
