As the sun sets, it’s a signal to our minds and bodies. Time to rest, time to pay attention to our family as we gather from the day’s work to be together, encourage, and care for one another.
Cosmic Markers — “And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.’ And it was so.” (Genesis 1:14-15 ESV) What do the rhythms of day and night, seasons and years, teach me about life?
Natural Cadence — “He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting. You make darkness, and it is night, when all the beasts of the forest creep about.” (Psalm 104:19-20 ESV) How do natural rhythms provide order and meaning to my life?
Life Seasons — “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 ESV) How do I describe the season of life that I am in right now?
Appointed Boundaries — “And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us.” (Acts 17:26-27 ESV) What does it mean that my place in history was intentionally set?
Spiritual Move: A meal together – at the end of the day, take time to sit face to face with family or friends and have dinner and conversation. Share the high points and the challenges of your day.
