In ancient cultures, a steward managed an entire household on behalf of the owner. They made decisions, allocated resources, and answered for outcomes. Their authority was handed down by the lord. Accountability was given through the owner’s trust.
Equipped for the Work — “And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God.” (Ephesians 4:11-13a ESV) Who has equipped or shaped you for the work you are doing right now?
As for the Lord — “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23 ESV) If you considered it an offering, what would change about your work?
Spiritual Move: Vocation — The practice of discerning the work God has given to you, dedicating yourself to it, and offering it with excellence. “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” (1 Peter 4:10 ESV)
