Forty-Nine: Streams in the Desert

Desert and water are opposites by definition. That is precisely why the image works — not a stream appearing somewhere hospitable, but water breaking through in the place least likely to sustain it. The miracle is in the location.

Water of Life — The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. (Revelation 22:17 ESV) Where are you trying to pay for what’s already free?

Come and Drink — “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.” (Isaiah 55:1-2 ESV) Where are you spending energy on something that keeps leaving you empty?

Spiritual Move: Breath Prayer — With each breath in, receive: You are making a way. With each breath out, release: I don’t have to find it myself. Let the rhythm of your breathing become a small act of trust in the God who puts rivers in deserts. “He turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water.” (Psalm 107:35 ESV)
