Farmers in ancient cultures understood that the soil could be exhausted, depleted, left barren by careless use. They didn’t own their land in the modern sense. Letting the land go fallow was a responsible aspect of their relationship with the land.
Given to Tend — “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” (Genesis 2:15 ESV) What has God placed in your hands that deserves more careful tending?
Seed and Harvest — “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” (2 Corinthians 9:10 ESV) Where are you finding a harvest from earlier faithful planting?
Spiritual Move: Stewardship — Take stock today of what you have been given — relationships, resources, responsibilities, time. Stewardship is not ownership; it is faithful care of what belongs to Another. Tend to one thing today with more attention than it usually receives. “Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2 ESV)
