Ancient farmers understood something we’ve mostly forgotten — soil can be spent. Work the same ground too hard, too long, without rest, and it stops giving. They didn’t own the land the way we own property. They were stewards of something on loan. The fallow year wasn’t laziness. It was wisdom. Some things only recover when you leave them alone.
Given to Tend — “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” (Genesis 2:15 ESV) What has God placed in your hands that deserves more careful tending?
Seed and Harvest — “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” (2 Corinthians 9:10 ESV) Where are you finding a harvest from earlier faithful planting?
Spiritual Move: Stewardship — Take stock today of what you have been given — relationships, resources, responsibilities, time. Stewardship is not ownership; it is faithful care of what belongs to Another. Tend to one thing today with more attention than it usually receives. “Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2 ESV)
