Little did we know that our playing in the dirt would be so useful. Early on, we realized the benefits of caring for plants. We decided to participate in the creation by preparing the land, sowing, and reaping. Do we realize how long it has taken to prepare that dirt? One inch of topsoil takes a thousand years to form. Even potted plants are a reminder that we steward the earth, on loan from God.
Divine Possession — “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.” (Psalm 24:1-2 ESV) What do you treat as yours that was never really yours to begin with?
Through Him and For Him — “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16 ESV) How could something you have actually be for another person?
Spiritual Move: Simplicity — The practice of holding what God has placed in our hands loosely. We release ownership and trust His provision — “But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’” (Luke 12:20 ESV).
