When we see farmlands from the mountain heights or from an airplane looking down, we may remember that at one time the land wasn’t a patchwork of cultivated fields. Our ancestors came to this place with a vision not yet realized. They thought about the future, about their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, expecting this place to provide a rich inheritance. But first, faithful planning and the work of their hands had to make the dream a reality. Our ancestors could never have dreamed of the patchwork that one day would fill our community with strength and connection.
Inheritance Promised — “On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, ‘To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates.’” (Genesis 15:18 ESV) How has your place of promise been a blessing to you?
Not Knowing — “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8 ESV) What promises are you anticipating?
Spiritual Move: Prayer Walking — Set out on a familiar route with open attention. Walk slowly and notice what surfaces. When you return, sit with what came up. “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8 ESV)
