Forty-One: Stay in the Dark

Many have never sat in true darkness long enough to notice what happens. But given enough time — an hour, maybe two — your eyes become nearly one million times more sensitive to light than when you started. The eye doesn’t force it. It simply waits. The longer you stay in the dark, the more you begin to see. Are you willing to wait?

A Principle for Understanding — “The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.” (Psalm 119:130 ESV) Where do you most need light right now?

No Shadow Side — “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5 ESV) How does a goodness change the way you approach God?

Spiritual Move: Visio Divina — The practice of praying through a visual image — a candle flame, a sunrise, a stained glass window — letting what you see become a doorway into what you cannot yet fully articulate. Slow down. Look. Let the image ask its question. “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1 ESV)
