You use water to clean everything: body, food, home, wounds; and you do it without thinking. It is so routine you barely notice, because something in us desires it. Soap has a dual nature, one side draws water, the other draws grease, and together they carry away the stain.
Total Purification — “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” (Psalm 51:7 ESV) Where do you most need to be washed clean?
Baptismal Cleansing — “And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.” (Acts 22:16 ESV) How have you experienced a washing away of your past?
Spiritual Move: Examen — This ancient practice is a daily review, by tracing where the day flowed and where it got stopped up, where grace was given and where it was needed. Slow down at the end of the day and look back honestly. “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!” (Psalm 139:23 ESV)
