The human body can survive weeks without food but only three to five days without water. Thirst is one of the few drives that cannot be rationalized away — it simply intensifies until it is the only thing you can think about.
Soul Longing — “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” (Psalm 42:1-2 ESV) What do you keep returning to when everything runs dry?
Outward Overflow — “On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive.” (John 7:38-39a ESV) Where is something good flowing from you because of grace?
Spiritual Move: Journaling — Take time to practice the spiritual move of writing down your cares and concerns. This is a way to make the movement of our soul visible and record your growth as you go. “Then the Lord answered me: ‘Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.’” (Habakkuk 2:2 ESV)
