Water covers 71 percent of the Earth’s surface, yet 97 percent is saltwater. Of the freshwater that remains, most is locked in glaciers and ice caps. What looks abundant is, for most living things, desperately scarce.
Earth’s Enrichment — “You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it.” (Psalm 65:9 ESV) Where do you see abundant provision in the natural world around you?
Universal Generosity — “He sends out springs in the valleys; they flow between the hills; they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; they sing among the branches.” (Psalm 104:10-12 ESV) What does water teach you about generosity and meeting needs?
Spiritual Move: Contemplative Prayer — The practice of sitting in the presence of God with a need, trusting the Spirit to intercede. “Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” (Romans 8:26 ESV)
