You can’t make yourself go to sleep; you can only create the setting and release yourself to it. Certainly, some people have trouble sleeping, but under normal circumstances, we must submit to this place of trust.
Learned Satisfaction — “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.” (Philippians 4:11-12 ESV) How are you learning contentment?
Restful Pastures — “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” (Psalm 23:1-2 ESV) Where are you resisting being led?
Spiritual Move: Sleep — Surrendering daily to the vulnerability of sleep is a picture of trust and reliance on God’s protection and care, trusting we will rise again. “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” (Psalm 4:8 ESV)
