Insomnia, restlessness, waking in the middle of the night, at some point we all have trouble sleeping. We can’t make ourselves fall asleep, but we can do some things to prepare the environment and habits that help us fall asleep. Experts tell us to make the room as dark and cool as possible, and get rid of TV and devices an hour before bedtime. When the striving stops, the body takes over. Sleep comes when we let go.
Learned Satisfaction — “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.” (Philippians 4:11-12 ESV) How are you learning contentment?
Restful Pastures — “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” (Psalm 23:1-2 ESV) Where are you resisting being led?
Spiritual Move: Sabbath — Setting apart a regular rhythm of rest to enjoy the provision and sovereignty of God. “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.” (Exodus 20:8–10a ESV)
