Seventeen: Wait for the Right Moment

We might think, what a great invention, so many ways to tell time. Until we realize it has become a universal concern, getting everywhere on time. Time has pressured our environment so much that we no longer know how to slow down. We are driven to fill our days and yet never feel caught up. It seems our ancestors were calmer. Did they know something we have missed?

Active Expectancy — “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 ESV) What is the waiting doing in you?

Divine Forbearance — “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” (2 Peter 3:8-9 ESV) Where is slowness easily confusing?

Spiritual Move: Examen — At the close of today, trace the path you actually walked. Where did you sense the light — a moment of clarity, a right decision, an unexpected peace? Where did you stumble or lose your footing? Bring both honestly before God. “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!” (Psalm 139:23 ESV)
