We are obsessed with controlling our time, saving our time, and making up time. Our time management tools may help, but they can also hurt. Our phones and apps have made matters worse. The bells and whistles, notifications six inches away at all times, have driven our anxiety to the point of phantom vibrations in our pockets. Before the pen hits the page, take a moment to reflect on what matters most today.
Numbered Days — “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12 ESV) How are you spending your finite number of days?
Wise Stewardship — “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17 ESV) Where are you spending time that doesn’t reflect your values?
Spiritual Move: Fixed-Hour Prayer — Try to structure your day around set times of prayer: morning, midday, and evening. Let the clock become a reminder that time belongs to God. Each pause is a small act of trust that the day doesn’t depend entirely on you. “He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.” (Daniel 6:10 ESV)
