Forty-Six: Go Back to the Source

Posted on July 5, 2026July 7, 2026

We have followed rivers without ever wondering where it begins. Trace any stream far upstream and you find the place where water first breaks from the ground or collects from the sky. Everything flowing past you downstream exists because something is happening miles away at the source. You can enjoy the river. But have you found where it starts?

Majestic Voice — “The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.” (Psalm 29:3-4 ESV) Where do you hear guidance most clearly in your life?

River of Delights — “They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.” (Psalm 36:8-9 ESV) Where are you drinking from a source that satisfies?

Spiritual Move: Contemplative Prayer — This is the practice of sitting with a need in God’s presence, releasing the burden of words and outcomes, trusting the Spirit to intercede when language fails. Bring what you cannot articulate and simply stay. “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love.” (Zephaniah 3:17 ESV)
